Overview
Shanghai Spacesail Technologies (上海垣信卫星, SpaceSail) is the Shanghai government-backed company building Qianfan (Thousand Sails, also called G60), China's main commercial low Earth orbit broadband constellation, from the Songjiang district of Shanghai.
Qianfan had about 240 satellites in orbit in October 2026 after 14 launches since August 2024, with a target of 324 for initial service and about 15,000 in its ITU filings. Spacesail has signed agreements abroad, with Telebras in Brazil (Anatel authorized up to 324 satellites in February 2026, with commercial service targeted for late 2026), MEASAT in Malaysia and partners in Kazakhstan, and in June 2026 completed China's first direct-to-cell voice calls from unmodified smartphones with a test satellite. No commercial service had been reported by September 2026.
