Overview
China Satellite Communications (China Satcom, 中国卫通) is the satellite operating subsidiary of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), based in Beijing and listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange since June 2019 (601698). It holds basic and value-added telecom licences and operates 19 civil communications and broadcasting satellites covering China, South-East and South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe and the Pacific.
Its three businesses are satellite operation, network system integration and information services. It runs a carrier-grade broadband satellite platform, an airborne connectivity platform and Haixingtong (海星通), a maritime service platform: crews use an app for high-speed internet, data top-ups and streaming, while shipping companies get ship-shore data and video backhaul, vessel tracking, video surveillance, conferencing and weather services. China Satcom is also a national first-tier emergency communications team.
