Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ)

Internet Initiative Japan (IIJ) is one of Japan's oldest internet service providers, headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo. Its business today is corporate networks: VPN, SD-WAN, mobile data for businesses, cloud and security services. It is also an authorized Starlink reseller and sells Starlink Business as a one-stop service, from the line and the kit to installation and maintenance.

IIJ does the site work. The antenna can go on a building roof or a factory, and the company adds wired or wireless LAN to reach the users. The link is then tied into IIJ's own services: traffic can travel by VPN into the company network or data centre, and Starlink can be run alongside IIJ Omnibus (SD-WAN), the IIJ Multi-Product Controller, IIJ mobile data and its zero-trust access service. The kit is rented by the month and can be boxed for storage and moved between sites, which suits construction projects and disaster kits.

Prices are published, excluding tax. Activation is 15,000 yen per line. The required terminal access charge is 5,400 yen a month on Local Priority (fixed and mobile use in Japan) and 24,000 yen on Global Priority (maritime and international). Data comes on top, for example 3,400 yen for 50 GB on Local Priority, and a support fee of 28,000 yen per line per month is required. Kit rental is 8,700 yen a month for the Mini or the Standard and 30,500 yen for the Performance dish.

IIJ pitches the service for business continuity and disaster response, for sites in mountains and on islands without fibre or mobile coverage, and for smart agriculture.
