About this directory

With some 17,000 islands, Indonesia has always needed satellites to connect what fibre and mobile networks cannot reach: villages in Papua and Maluku, mines and plantations, offshore platforms, ships, bank branches and ATMs, and the backhaul of mobile base stations. The country runs its own geostationary fleet and, since 2022, also uses Starlink.

A national satellite operator

Telkomsat, the satellite subsidiary of Telkom Indonesia, operates the group's satellites. The latest, Merah Putih 2, was launched on 21 February 2024 to 113° East: it is Telkom's eleventh satellite and its first high-throughput one, with up to 32 Gbps in C and Ku band, mostly sold as backhaul to VSAT operators. Telkomsat is also Starlink's first partner in the country, licensed since 2022 to use the constellation as backhaul for the Telkom group.

Integrators and Starlink resellers

The other companies listed above are network and IT providers that now resell Starlink to businesses: Lintasarta, with more than 30 years in enterprise ICT, Primacom (PrimaStar, with a 99% SLA), IIJ Global Solutions Indonesia, Data Lake Indonesia, the fibre network company Fiberstar, Skylink and Tangara Mitrakom. All are based in Jakarta.

GEO or LEO?

VSAT on geostationary satellites remains the reference for contracted bandwidth, government networks and sites already built around it; Starlink brings lower latency and higher speeds for cloud and video. Many companies combine both, or pair the satellite with a 4G link, on remote sites where a single path is not enough.

Prices and resellers for Starlink alone are on the Starlink in Indonesia page.
